The United Church of Hinesburg, with roots in the American Baptist, United Church of Christ and United Methodist churches, welcomes visitors and participants from all faith backgrounds into our community. You do not need to be an official member of the congregation to attend services or volunteer with our social service programs.
January 2018 Events
Wednesday, January 3rd & Wednesday, January 17th ~ 12:30pm - 2pm ~ Our knitting/crocheting group will meet in the Parish Hall to work on our projects together and enjoy some fellowship time. Bring your project, new or old, or simply bring yourself. All are welcome - including beginners!
Friday, January 5th ~ 6:00pm-8:00pm ~ Join us for our monthly Sunday School movie night. We will share a dinner of macaroni and cheese and then watch Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie on the big screen in the Parish Hall. Please RSVP at www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0C49ADAA29AAF49-sunday8 so we know how much food to prepare. We will provide popcorn and beverages but kids should bring a bean bag chair, blanket, pillow, sleeping bag, etc. to watch the movie in comfort. Venture out for a little fun before the deep cold and cabin fever set in over the weekend!
Sunday, January 14th ~ One Room Schoolhouse Sunday School; we will be walking through town and offering our shoveling services to those in need. If you know of someone in particular who could use our help, please contact Heather in the church office.
Sunday, January 14th ~ 11:15am ~ Don't miss our Soup & Sandwich coffee hour on the 2nd Sunday of the month during January, February and March. Stay after church to be warmed by delicious food and fellowship.
Friday, January 19th ~ 5:00pm-8:30pm ~ Salsa & Salsa High School Youth Group event. We'll share a taco dinner and then make salsa and learn some salsa dancing moves. Youth should bring $5 each to cover the cost of supplies. RSVP to Pastor Jared at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Friday, January 26th ~ 5:30pm-7:00pm ~ Join us for our monthly free community dinner hosted by the High School Youth Group. The menu will feature Puerto Rican specialties and any donations support the High School Youth service trip to Puerto Rico in June 2018.
Saturday, January 27th ~ 9:00am-12:00pm ~ The Missions & Social Justice Committee will gather for their annual retreat at Karen's house. Call the church office if you need directions.
Sunday, January 28th ~ 11:15am - 11:45am ~ Practicing God-talk will meet during coffee hour to discuss “Why 2017 Was the Best Year in Human History” by Nicholas Kristof in The New York Times Sunday Review (1/7/18). “A smaller share of the world’s people were hungry, impoverished, or illiterate than at any time before.” A related biblical theme: “‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me’” (Matthew 25:40).
