Serve

“Ministering” - the act of serving
The ministry of lay persons is to represent Christ and his Church; to bear witness to him wherever they may be; and, according to the gifts given them, to carry on Christ’s work of reconciliation in the world; and to take their place in the life, worship, and governance of the Church (from The Catechism of the Episcopal Church).

At the United Church of Hinesburg, all people have the opportunity to minister (or serve) in a variety of ways. These include:

 Worship
  • Usher, greet, read and/or offer spiritual reflections for worship services
  • Sing in the choir or participate in the music program

Governance
  • Serve on a committee such as Christian Education, Justice and Witness, Membership Care, Nominating, Spiritual Formation, Staff/Parish, Stewardship and Finance, Worship, and/or Trustees

Representation
  • Serve as a representative to SCHIP or another local ecumenical/interfaith program
  • Serve as a representative to one of our denominational bodies (United Methodist, American Baptist, or United Church of Christ)

Service
  • Help us continue our Justice and Witness work in the community by working with various missions programs including the 5K Fun Run, Missions month, food drives, community dinners and more

Spiritual Formation/Christian Education
  • Participate or lead in small group study
  • Teach young people in Sunday School

Volunteerism/Fundraising
  • Participate in programs like the Auxiliary's Plant Sale or Holiday Bazaar or the Chicken Pie Supper

If you would like to engage in a particular type of ministry listed above, have a new ministry to offer or simply want more information, please contact the church office at unitedchurch@gmavt.net.
