Who We Are
The United Church of Hinesburg is a federated church with connections to the American Baptist, United Church of Christ and United Methodist denominations. We are part of a great legacy of over 200 years of Hinesburg Church history.
At the beginning of each worship service we state that, "No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here." As a faith community we try to live into that statement in every way, offering a warm welcome and hospitality to all who come in our doors. This is just one expression of our Open and Affirming faith. We gather as community in many ways: We worship together, seeking to understand what God might be saying to us through prayer, preaching, sacraments, singing and sharing. We work together, bringing the wider community closer through plant sales, nature camps, community dinners, youth programs and retreats. We study together, to learn as we are able through religious education programs and faith formation groups for ages 0-100. We gather together, to support one another during life's greatest challenges and celebrate life's greatest joys. At the end of each worship service we leave with this benediction: "Life is short, and we do not have long to gladden the hearts of those around us, so, be quick to love, and do good to your neighbor, and allow God to journey with you all your days." We pray that what we do at UCH will help us to be a blessing to those around us - a blessing to our families, to our community and to all the earth. |
The United Church of Hinesburg is an open, welcoming, and affirming church and a reconciling congregation, embracing diversity in our congregation and community, and affirming the dignity and worth of every person as created in the image of God. We believe discrimination is incompatible with Christ’s Gospel of unconditional love. We welcome into full membership and participation in the Body of Christ persons of every race, language, age, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, economic or marital status, and faith background. We affirm and celebrate all loving and committed relationships. We commit ourselves to work diligently to end oppression and discrimination. Following the example of Jesus Christ, we hereby declare ourselves to be an Open, Welcoming, and Affirming Church
