At UCH, we are committed to those around us.
We embark on new opportunities to alleviate hunger for our neighbors here in Vermont and around the world! Below are a few of the commitments we have made to our surrounding community, to Vermont, and to the larger world.
Community Meals
Come visit with your friends and neighbors over delicious food. Dinners are served in Osborne Parish Hall and all donations support hunger relief missions such as the Hinesburg Food Shelf. Dinners are held the last Friday of every month 5:30-7:00pm. Fair Trade/Equal Exchange
The Missions committee is excited to introduce the idea of fair trade marketing to our congregation as part of our mission to address worldwide hunger. What is fair trading? Simply put, “Products are exported internationally from developing countries to developed countries and are produced under fair conditions. Every step!" For more information visit: http://www.equalexchange.coop/ Little Free Pantry
Please consider donating to the Little Free Pantry located at the United Church of Hinesburg. The concept is simple, "Take what you need, leave what you can." No paperwork needed; available 24 hours a day. |
Annual Hearts for Hunger 5K & 1K Fun Run/Walk
Our Hearts for Hunger 5K/1K Fun Run & Walk has raised over $45,000 for the Vermont Foodbank Backpack Program in the last seven years. Blanket Mission
The Community Health Centers of Burlington operates our region's only Healthcare for the Homeless program. Their Safe Harbor program, located on South Winooski Avenue in Burlington, provides walk-in services for homeless adults and families. These are often people who may not be ready for shelters or other resources. Part of Safe Harbor's mission is to conduct outreach to encampments or other locations where people live on the streets throughout the year. Since the Fall of 2015, our congregation donated 144 sleeping bags to the Safe Harbor program to be distributed to homeless individuals in our community. During the fall drive in 2019, we focused on tents and tarps and were able to donate 8 sets to Safe Harbor. |
